Back in Brazil

After 15 years in the US, I am back to Brazil. When I left my home country to do a masters sponsored by the Fulbright Commission, I was supposed , after graduation, to come back to Brazil for 2 years  before I could apply for immigration. Instead. after graduation, I went to a doctorate, got married, worked and time went by... So, 15 years later I am back to fulfill my duty.

There were lots of feelings involved when we realized to move back was the only way to fulfill the requirements of Fulbright. I was so used to my life in Knoxville and leaving my house, friends in the US was hard. Besides, my husband is going to split his time between the 2 countries and our family is going to be apart for most of the time. My main concern was my son. How he would adapt to his new life, school, costumes was always in my mind. On the other hand, I am very happy I am having the opportunity to spend time with my parents, as we live just a block from them, and also with my sister, her husband and son, who live a couple of hours from here. Having family around once we have our own family is a totally different experience. It is easier to understand our parents once we become parents ourselves.

Today is 2 weeks we have been here and the experience has been very positive. Life here is very different from life in the US. So far, I am enjoying the difference.
